Delwen was born in Port Alice, British Columbia. He was raised and educated in over twelve cities and towns in Rhodesia, South Africa, and Canada. After working for years as an insurance underwriter, an insurance broker and agent, and briefly as the owner of a construction company, he obtained both a B.A. and an L.L.B. from the University of British Columbia. Delwen articled and practiced with the Vancouver firm of Davis & Company for 6 years, before leaving in 1994 to found the Fraser Valley firm of Sliman, Stander & Company, which grew from 1 to 14 lawyers over 11½ years. He left this firm to found Stander & Company on December 1, 2005, in order to concentrate on litigation and mediation solutions.

Delwen’s litigation practice involves such areas as insurance litigation for a number of international and national insurance companies, foreclosure litigation for national finance companies, general civil litigation for local businesses, institutions, and individuals, strata law, and negotiations for land owners on expropriations and pipeline matters.

Delwen also offers his services as a mediator of disputes, including those involving all forms of insurance, personal injury, motor vehicle accidents, general civil matters such as breach of contract and defamation, and employment. He also provides faith-based mediation services for Christians in dispute.

Delwen has extended his services in the last 13 years to include assistance to individuals and companies in the negotiation of contracts, including those related to compensation for expropriations and pipeline rights of way.

Delwen has a wide variety of experience in various litigation matters involving governments, institutions, businesses, farms, municipalities, societies, strata corporations, and individuals, and has advised clients in cases as diverse as insurance disputes, negligence suits, defamation cases, and administrative legal challenges. His civil and insurance litigation has taken him before both the Supreme and Appellate courts. He has frequently appeared before many provincial and federal administrative boards, and also represents clients in arbitrations.

Delwen has been counsel or mediator in over 400 mediations, and qualified to be a mediator in 2004. He has now mediated many disputes in the Lower Mainland, the rest of B.C., and elsewhere , and is available for mediations anywhere.
